Isola del Giglio

Situated in the centre of the Tyrrhenian sea, only 11 miles from the Argentario promontory, it contains in its 21.21 km2 “A treasure to be discovered”. Its mild climate offers to visitors a holiday full of surprises in all seasons, in close contact with a reality which is genuine and uncontaminated as only in a few other places. The crystal clear emerald sea, with its rich sea beds full of fish, frame a land which is still 90% wild, which invites us to venture onto many walking routes. Exceptional for the promontory of Franco ( characterised by Triassic limestone caves and quartz from the Paleozoic era), The island is made almost exclusively from granite and is predominantly mountainous, its spine reaches the height of 496 m above sea level at the point of Poggio della Pagana, from where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the archipelago, particularly on clear days.

The island has a rich Mediterranean flora. The botanic species found by the scholar S. Sommier (1900) are almost 700 among which some are particularly rare and indigenous. Luxurious all year round, from March to June it is a riot of colours and intensity of perfumes which envelop the senses. Giglio is also host to some rare species of animal among which the Discoglosso sarda ( a frog), the pilgrim falcon, the royal gull and the corso gull. However, there are no vipers or other poisonous animals. However, one of the fundamental attractions of the island is the variety of coastline, which extends for 28km. A coast which alternates rock with smooth granite, sandy beaches and bays, offering almost always the possibility of access and of swimming in calm waters on the side opposite the windy side. To sum up, the island of Giglio really is a treasure to be discovered.

The island is the ideal destination for all those who love to have a real relationship with nature and the natural environment, the sea, walking, bird watching, minerals and the fascinating underwater world. Everyone has the choice of their own dimensions, to style themselves their own tailor made holiday in this world which becomes more restrictive every day.
