Saturnia

SaturniaAncient city with mysterious origins, it owes its name to the god Saturn, son of Uranus and Lord of the gods until he was deposed by one of his sons. The legend has it that Saturn’s wife, Gea gave him a son every year which he ate alive to be sure to wipe out his offspring. We don't know how long this terrible banquet went on for, but one day Gea gave birth to Zeus and she hid him in a cave of Mount Ida on the island of Crete: and so the prophecy was fulfilled, according to which Zeus became the new Lord of Olympus.
Legend has it that Saturnia, which arose from God’s own hands, was the first Italian city, however the first real evidence of life that we have so far comes from the second half of the 8th century BC. as proved by Etruscan burial sites discovered there. "Sede di Carlo".In 280 BC. was conquered by the Romans. In 82 BC. It took in Mario and was devastated by the reprisal of the Silla In medieval times, its mysterious origins and its sulphurous springs inspired many legends. It was said that the devil came through here when he left hell and the area was described as a place from which gushed bewitched water, which then went into steaming, boiling wells, filling the air with a strong satanic smell (sulphur). The history of the time records meetings of warlocks and witches, witchcraft and magic rites. The thermal springs, from which gushes sulphurous water at a temperature of 37° which is particularly pleasant and beneficial, are known all over the world today, but were first organised for the public in 1865, when Bernardino Ciacci reclaimed the land of the fountains and built a Thermal Spa.
